moderate message for caolan
Comment 4 Unknown 2001-01-26 23:24:07 UTC
Research:

Caolan is subscribed to dev@openoffice.org as: "caolan.mcnamara@sun.com"
Mod messages are from: "Caolan.McNamara@sun.com"
He's sub'd twice to ooposters:
  1) "caolan.mcnamara@sun.com"
  2) "caolan.mcnamara@germany.sun.com

case-sensitivity should not be an issue, so this is mysterious.

Will refer to edk for diagnosis and recommendation.

Some months ago I made the experience that the Return-Path: header content must
match the subscribed address, at least it was the case when subscribing to a
list. Maybe that is connected to this issue?

Email sent to edk for support

The value which gets put into return-path -- the envelope sender -- is what
matters, not the From: address. When you get moderation requests, what does the
allow-... address look like? Goolie -- you should be able to get the envelope
sender by looking at that line, assuming you're seeing a cc to allow-...

If you're using a recent version of mutt, you can get it to set the envelope
sender (this also requires cooperation from your MTA). The following setting
works if your mutt is >= 1.2.x ...

set envelope_from=yes

I think we found it.

a more detailed study of mail headers revealed that Caolan's Return-Path is
cm102109@eham02-sunray.Germany.Sun.COM; this address is the one that ezmlm
checks for.

i have added this address to OOposters; this should fix the problem.

If there has been no more activity on this issue by next week, i will close it
out.

Right I have set envelope_from thingy for this, and our MTA is happy with it, so
I'll go post some trivia here and there and see if it works now, but there is
the curious issue that it did seem to work previously, unless maybe they were
all being hand moderated and I wasn't aware of it!

ooposter "cm102109@eham02-sunray.Germany.Sun.COM" isn't a long term solution as
this *will* change. envelope_from sounds like my friend.

To test whether envelope_from *is* Caolan's friend I removed cm102... from
ooposters
Comment 11 Unknown 2001-02-06 03:53:24 UTC
Caolan, does this seem to be resolved?
Comment 12 caolanm 2001-02-08 13:29:53 UTC
