MRU->FL: here is a request about a possiblity to have the old behaviour for the shading of numberings. The shading is great to get a fast overview of what is from oo.org and what is from yourself. It helps to do a correct formatting. I think most people who turn the control characters on also want to have the numbering shaded. Maybe the control character button could switch both on. Default for shading of numbering fields was on in OO 1.1. In usability test these shadings were commented like follows: "oh, will those boxes be printed out". We can think about a new option to permanently switch on/off those shadings for OO 3. With the argument from fl "oh, will those boxes be printed out" you could also omit the grey shading of all field commands (please don't do that). But in the end you would not know any longer what is from OO.org and what is from you. The former approach that more or less everything that comes from OO.org is shaded is much more straight, than what OO2.0 is doing now. add dev note setting keyword "numbering" |
oo.org up to 1.1 had a choice wether shoields should be shaded or not that always shaded all fields when turned on. 1.9 builds have this feature modified (probably to mimic words behaviour) so that fields are shaded only when the cursor is to the left of the field. this probably helps to see the document more like it will look when printed, but having all fields shaded has a benefit of noticing field usage - for example, for documents prepared elsewhere it was very useful to see very fast wether automatic numbering is used. oo.org should provide also old behaviour, so that 3 possible options are available - no shading at all, old-style shading and word-style shading. view- >field shadings would be a submenu that would contain these 3 choices and shortcut key could rotate modes.
