I'm using the proprietary file open / save dialog of OOo. It is possible to
change the size of this dialog to fit my personal needs.
Unfortunately when the dialog is opened the next time, it always begins with the
upper left corner on a given position.
In case I have enlarged the length of the dialog to see more files and moved it
on the center of the screen, the next time I open it is has the same size, but
starts at this given point. This has the effect that I cannot see the end of the
dialog.
It would be helpful if the dialog would automatically center on the screen,
depending on the size the user has set before.

confirming and accepting. It seems that only the size is remembered,
not the posisition.

I would also like to see the subdivisors remember their sizes. I
deal in files with really long names, and having to move the filename
subdivisor all the time is a PITA.
(OOo 1.0 on Linux here)

I want to add something: Can the dialog not also be enhanced with a
list view?. Currently only a detailed view of the files is possible.
The possibility to switch to a list view that only show the file names
would be also helpful. [Should I file for this a new issue?]

For the enhancement with a list view I filed a new issue 5789.
Therefore this enhancement should be followed-up there.
