Open Office 1.0.0 - using on Dell P4 with ATI Rage 128 Ultra, Windows XP.
When using Gallery objects with any application, the display will artifact and 
copy elements of other windows and the background into the document.  

If the document is saved and reopened, there are no artifacts kept.  However, 
any subsequent use of gallery object repeat the problem.

I have tested this on XP with version 1.0.1 and could not reproduce
the problem. Do you still have these problems with a newer version?
