Often when text is imported or pasted it has a hard CR or NL at the end of each
line.

We all now how to use search-and-replace to fill this between margins - replace
\n\n with some wierd thing like QQQ, replace \n with a space, replace
space-space with a single space repeatedly, replace QQQ with a paragraph mark.

Wordstar 6 and 7 could do this for you. Why can't writer?

Why can't we select a portion of text and say "fill between margins, style =
<paragraph style>"?

Why isn't there a version of paste_special for the same thing, fill and asign
style name?

because there is.

Make sure that Tools|AutoCorrect → Options → combine single-line pagagraphs at
XX% is checked, then use Format|AutoFormat → Apply (and record changes)

Well, you do surprise me. Sorry about that.

Mark you, nothing in the Help file told me about that (the only references to
Fill appear to be for the spreadsheet). It seems a little circuitious, so
perhaps a Help entry could be arranged? can we hcange this to a request for the
help sysem instead, with my faux pas above as a justification?
