Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 108271
Usability improvement idea: Drag&Drop in the margin of the application window
Last modified: 2013-02-07 22:43:33 UTC
As there is nothing like an "idea storm" of OpenOffice.org, I place this idea here in the issue tracker. I believe it could be a great usability improvement. The cut&paste experience in OpenOffice.org could be greatly enhanced, if it would be possible to drag object to the margins of the application window and drop it there. If one would like to use this snippet again, it could be just possible to draw it back into the document and drop it there. As it is alway easier to explain something with pictures, please see both attachments. The first is a mockup, how it could look like in Impress. The second picture is a photo of an old Apple Newton Messagepad which had this feature. And indeed, it was a very handy feature. Thank you very much for considering this idea!

Reassigned. At the moment you can use the gallery to create themes, drag-in objects and have them handy in every application to use them over and over again...
@wg: Thanks for your fast response: I created a new theme, but it is not possible to drag in anything. How does this work? (I tried it in Impress with drawing objects and images)
