Please consider a floating palette for special characters. The convenience 
would be immense. Also,  make it dockable like color palettes in draw
and image editing programs, and then you'd have real functionality.

I use MS Word 97, I can easily add many special characters in the 
same line or in all the document.

On openoffice 1.1 beta 2, when insert one special character, the 
special character window closes, it's uncorfortable.

Special characters window need to be improve too :
- Why not add the possibility to access directly to the character by 
typing the code, may be useful for CKJ characters...
- ...

This can also be made possible by way of an extension.

To grep the issues easier via "requirements" I put the issues currently lying on
my owner to the owner "requirements".
