Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 111067
Wrong font-size display for operators in formulas
Last modified: 2014-04-15 20:34:10 UTC
The size of operators in freshly typed formula is incorrect and does not adhere to previously made settings in the formula editors formatting dialog. It can only be made proper by invoking over-and-over again the formula editors font-size dialog ... and maybe other methods I did not try. A step-by-step instruction to produce the issue is attached. I just tested on Mac OS X (10.4) with OOo4Kids (based on OOO320_m12 + fixes ) and I got the right size, even changing the font size between 12 and 18 as shown in your presentation. Did you use a template ? Maybe something is modified ? Anyway, I add me on CC, just in case the SoC to improve Math is selected this year ;)
No template has been used. The user directory .openoffice has been created completely fresh before generating this issue. I was expecting this not be reproduced widely (see ericb's previous comment) That is why I have attached *both*, the *.odp and the PDF export to this issue. The PDF is exactly how it looks on my machine, both in editing and presentation mode. On page 2 of the PDF you can clearly see the size difference. @ericb: I'd be pleased to see the orphaned Math module improved - say eg. issue #5156 ... ;) Yet I'm still much more waiting for the-one-and-only-bummer issue #48179 to finally show up as fixed in any public version of Ooo :(
Due to several suggestions, that this issue might be related to user settings and/or usage of non-default fonts in Math equations I have updated the attachments to this issue. The files named 'WrongOperatorFontsII*' now contain a more extended step-by-step procedure demonstrating this issue while definitely using only the default Math font, a totally new .openoffice user-directory, no templates, no settings changed, no nothing - other than a freshly installed Ooo. So this issue seems not to be related to any non-standard settings/fonts/templates or alike. Anyone able to confirm this this? Regards, Wolfram (alias 123ooofree)

Inspection of the unzipped ODP file shows that the XML file "settings.xml" in the "Object n" directory, as well as the "ObjectReplacements" files differ between the formulas with the wrong and the proper operator font size: Pick eg. Object 17, 18, and 19 for the last three formulas on the 3rd page of "WrongOperatorFontsII.odp". Each of them contains the file "settings.xml". In these files there is only one difference between formula 17 and formulas 18 and 19, namely the XML tags "ViewAreaWidth" and "ViewAreaHeigth". The latter are the same for 18 and 19 but are different for 17. In addition to that, the "ObjectReplacements" 18 and 19 are identical but 17 is different.
By now, I have confirmed this issue on several Linux systems, i.e. 'vanilla' Ooo Version 3.0, 3.1 und 3.2 with SuSE 11.1 SuSE-Novell Ooo Version 3.0 with SuSE 11.1 Ubuntu Ooo Version 3.1 with Ubuntu Karmic Koala 'vanilla' Ooo Version 3.2 with " " " On WinXP with 'vanilla' Ooo 3.1 the issue is absent
Confirmed with AOO410m17(Build:9763) - Rev. 1586584 2014-04-11 09:13 - Linux x86_64 Debian
