Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 115755
Add Ability to change text highlight/background
Last modified: 2013-09-25 02:26:25 UTC
In writer you are able to change the background/highlight colour of text but cannot do so in Impress. Could you add this in?
Title: Add highlighting text feature Description: In Impress, there is no way to highlight selected text. However, this feature is available in Open Office Writer. Since this functionality is not directly available in MS PowerPoint, it is a desirable feature for presentation users. Status: UNCONFIRMED Version Number: oOo-dev 3.4.0 Feature Area: Text Formatting Toolbar Reproduction Steps: 1. Type text in a slide. 2. Select the text that you wish to highlight. 3. You could click on format text toolbar or select format under menu bar and choose character / paragraph. 4. You will notice that there is no way of highlighting selected text in Impress. 5. However, MS PowerPoint provides this feature indirectly by using the drawing toolbar. Refer to the following link: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/powerpoint-help/highlight-text-HP001149298.aspx Notes: This feature is desirable since MS PowerPoint doesn’t directly offer this feature. Adding this feature in Impress will definitely make the application more user-friendly.
I have recreated this bug in Version 4.0.0 build 9702. I followed the reproduction steps posted by iajmani. However, step 5 may cause issues if a user moves the text box, changes the size of the text or movers the colored rectangle box. I have also verified that Microsoft PowerPoint 2010 and 2013 also do not offer this feature. Google docs Presentation application which lets you create PowerPoint presentations does offer a feature to highlight text on a slide. I have also confirmed that changing the position and size of the text maintains the highlight. If you download this file as a .ppt or .pptx and open it in Ingress or PowerPoint, then it loses the highlight formatting. This feature is still desirable and will make creating presentations more effective and efficient while maintaining formatting and compatibility across multiple platforms.
