Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 119419
Hidden Text Disappeared
Last modified: 2013-07-10 16:51:12 UTC
Using OpenOffice on Ubuntu. I'm writing a manuscript, I have extensive notes that I (cleverly, I thought) made hidden text, so that I could view them quickly, but could still print up a note-less version to share with others. Did this for several weeks, suddenly all the hidden text disappeared. I click Show hidden paragraphs, Show non-printing characters. Nada. Gone. Vanished. Vamoose. Not some of it (it was interspersed among about 15 summaries), which it occurred to me I might have inadvertently deleted editing visible text (although I had checked that previously, it didn't seem that I could delete hidden text while it was hidden). All of it. It was pages and pages of notes. Fortunately, I had an older version in the trash, didn't lose the work. Thought you should know.
I have try to repro it, but failed. I create some of Hidden text and some comments and bookmarks. Then insert some visible text, and delete some of visible text, then click show none printing characters, the hiden text display fine. Seems there have special operater or maybe the file i operator is not complex enough.
How a comment can be in hidden text? Please provide exact steps to reproduce.
They were my own comments/notes in normal text interspersed around the presentation text, not formal 'Comments' or 'Notes' as an OpenOffice feature. BTW, Ubuntu has now switched me to LibreOffice (without my consent BTW, a bit cheeky).
Hidden text is preserved in Rev. 1500236 Debian. Bug is confirmed because help is wrong in displaying hidden text: "Enable the check mark at View - Hidden Paragraphs." View - Hidden Paragraphs in checked by default. Only variable value change or condition statement change will reveal the text.
