Description J. Gareth Moreton 2012-12-16 21:08:00 UTC
When inserting a text flow break to control page numbers on the first page, the resultant paragraph does not honour the setting specified in the "Above paragraph" setting of "Indents & Spacing", acting as if it is set to zero regardless of the actual value. This can be annoying for headings and titles.
Comment 1 J. Gareth Moreton 2012-12-16 21:08:49 UTC
(Only works if the page number chosen is not 0 or 1)
Comment 2 Regina Henschel 2012-12-16 21:20:04 UTC
Whether the paragraph margin is used at the top of the page is controlled by the setting in Tools > Options > Openoffice.org Writer > Compatibility, and there the option "Add paragraph and table spacing at tops of pages (in current document)".
Comment 3 J. Gareth Moreton 2012-12-17 01:00:48 UTC
That option is already set, and when the document doesn't have a text flow break, it appears correctly, but as soon as one is inserted on the first page, the "above paragraph" spacing is ignored.

Steps to reproduce:

- Open a new document.
- Type "Test".
- Apply style "Heading 1" to the test - observe space between the text and the top of the page.
- Go to the start of the line.
- Go to "Format" -> "Paragraph...".
- Select the "Text Flow" tab.
- Under the "Breaks" section, check "Insert", then "With Page Style" and a page number of '2' (other options remain at their default settings).
- Click OK.
- Observe that the space between the text and the top of the page has now disappeared. However, under the "Indents & Spacing" tab of "Format" -> "Paragraph...", 'Above paragraph' spacing still shows 0.42cm.

Please attach a file, which shows the problem. I use AOO3.4.1 on WinXP. The setting works here as it should. I cannot confirm it.

And to be sure, do you use odt file format?

Please specify your Platform. Sometimes errors depend on operating system.

I can reproduce the described the defect according the steps given in comment 3 on my system (AOO 3.4.1 on Windows 7).

The spacing above the paragraph (top margin) only disappears in a special case as far as I figured out:
- The paragraph is the first paragraph of the text document.
- A "blank page" is inserted as the first page of the text document caused by the chosen page number (even page number greater than zero). Switch to "Page Preview" is see, if a "blank page" is inserted.

@J. Gareth Moreton:
Can you confirm that the described defect only occurs when the above conditions are hold?

Test case to show the defect, and it not occurring otherwise

I can confirm that this defect only occurs for the first paragraph on the first page. The attachment shows two pages with text flow breaks, and the second one does not show the defect.

My version is Apache OpenOffice 3.4.1

Oh, and I am using Windows Vista Business, Service Pack 2.
