Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 124141
Paragraph color picker behavior inconsistent.
Last modified: 2014-04-24 12:15:34 UTC
(a) Font color: icons shows last used color, a click will transfer color to current selection. That's ok (b) Font background color: icons shows last used color, a click will transfer color to current selection. That's ok (c) Paragraph background color: (c1) icons shows actual paragraph background color of the current selection, view of icon will hold that color other caret will be in a paragraph with a different color. That differs from behavior of other 2 pickers, IMHO without any good reason. NOT OK (c2) a click will open the picker, that is necessary due to c1, but c1 is NOT OK (c3) Paragraph color picker design is different to the one of other 2 pickers (what is more or less consequent due to c1, c2), no separate "open picker arrow", but an integrated one.
There is a LibreOffice Bug
True, should be an enhancement request for unifying UI and interactions. Should evtl. be joined with 69900.
I was able to recreate this issue on version 3.3 (build 9567) 1. Opened a new document. 2. Entered two paragraphs of random text. 3. Highlighted the first paragraph, changed the font color by using the Font Color Chooser, changed the paragraph color using Background Color Chooser 4. Clicked away, within a second paragraph, and noticed that while Font Color Chooser saved the color of previous selection, Background Color Chooser - reset to (default) white. Since I use this function often, reviewed how it works in MS Word, and noticed that Background Color Chooser also saves previous color selection, similarly to Font Color Chooser. See attached images to compare.

IMHO not a bug. Different behavior helps user, otherwise it is easy to make mistake (i.e. highlight paragraph instead of selection or vice versa).
Confirmed per comment 2, comment 3
