Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 124817
Does not recognize the mysql-connector-x.x.x-java-bin.jar file
Last modified: 2014-05-11 05:41:12 UTC
The mysql-connector-x.x.x-java-bin.jar file is not being recognized. Using Tools > Options > OpenOffice > Java > Add, and navigating to the folder where the file exists, it does not recognize that it is there and, thus, will not allow for a JDBC connection to occur (since it is requesting the javaruntime environment -- which it doesn't recognize). Unable to find literature in this regard. The closest thing was "The mysql-connector-x.x.x-java-bin.jar file should then appear in the list of Assigned folders and Archives. Click on OK to close the dialog." But, when it doesn't (though it's there), what should be done? The file was downloaded from <http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/connector/j/>. Only one option for download is available.
What is your operating system? What is the folder where the file exists?

If there is no JRE selected on Tools - Options - OpenOffice - Java, then the application may not allow you to add the MySQL Connector J. Is there a JRE selected? Note that OpenOffice is a 32 bit application on Windows, it needs a 32 bit JRE. And by the way, did you try the Native connector? (no Java needed), see http://extensions.openoffice.org/en/project/mysql-driver-apache-openoffice https://code.google.com/a/apache-extras.org/p/aoo-my-sdbc/wiki/Downloads
