Description Bradley Roderick 2014-06-30 06:15:12 UTC
This was not initially a problem with OpenOffice Draw. I was able to insert pictures perfectly well. All of a sudden, it began inserting pictures as bitmap fills of the last shape I created. I started to work around the problem by inserting a rectangle and inserting the picture. But that creates other issues. It does this with every file I have.

The behaviour was adapted and unified for all applicatins in AOO410. Please compare with the release notes (http://www.openoffice.org/development/releases/4.1.0.html#AOO4.1ReleaseNotes-ImportPicturefromFileandDrag&DropofGraphicData) if it works as expected.

I see. The issue, then, is that it will automatically do a drag and drop to the last shape that was created, even if it is not selected. I have no way (at least that I've tried) of simply inserting a new picture without it replacing something.

Yes, you have to make sure that nothing is selected.
The first control in the statusbar tells you what object is selected (with a text "Shape selected", "Rectangle selected", etc.), just click with the mouse in any area of the document without elements, and nothing will be selected.

Right, the problem is that even when nothing is selected it still picks the last shape created and does a drag and drop for that.

I cannot reproduce on MacOSX 10.8 with these steps:

- New Draw document
- Insert a rectangle
- Insert an ellipse
- Make sure nothing is selected
- Menu Insert - Picture - From File..., select a picture and press the Open button

Result: the image is inserted as expected.

Are you following a different procedure?
Comment 6 Armin Le Grand 2014-07-01 15:36:19 UTC
@Bradley: Checked with the same steps as Arierl in comment 5, same result using AOO410m15(Build:9761) - Rev. 1583567. If this still happens on your side, coulld you please check your exact version?
Please select OpenOffice/About_OpenOffice from the menu, copy/paste the line beginning with 'AOO410...' here. It's the only line selectable there (to allow copy/paste)...

.odg file with problem reproduced

I am currently experiencing the very same issue as described in 2014. Attached is an .odg file. Any attempt to add an image using "Insert Picture from File" fills Box #3 with a bitmap texture made of that image. I am using Mac OS X 10.11.6 and Open Office 4.1.3 (I just updated from 4.1.2, hoping the issue might have vanished - it occurs with 4.1.2 as well).
Comment 8 Cathy Laporte 2017-02-14 19:48:08 UTC
The exact build I am using is AOO413m1(Build:9783).
Comment 9 Cathy Laporte 2017-02-14 19:58:49 UTC
I will add that the issue seems in some strange way tied to the size of box #3. If I make it short enough (height-wise), the problem magically disappears!

@Cathy Laporte use layers to set shapes as background. If you don't know about this concept, go to our forum or end-user mail list.

Bradley Roderick don't give some news since a long time ago, so this issue is set as irreproducible.
