If we click inside the font size dropdown it is not at all getting highlighted at the first click.

Hello,

*I am finding a difference in selecting font size and font type with the drop down box when comparing with windows word.
*Let me define it with a comparison between windows word and Aoo 4.1.0

Windows word vs Aoo 4.1.0

      1) In windows word if you want to select or change the size or style of the font, then you will move your cursor to the font size or style drop downbox.

      2) If you click inside the drop downbox in windows it is automatically getting(highlighted) selected at the first click whereas in Aoo 4.1.0.

      3) It needs more than two clicks for selecting the content which is already present in the drop downbox.

4)This feature will help users to delete and re-type their desired font size easily.

This is called "Live Preview" in MSOffice, and is not limited to the Font Size; see http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/help/preview-formats-fonts-and-styles-before-you-apply-them-HA010203413.aspx

I think the OP only means, that the content in a inputbox should be selected (highlighted) if the box get the focus. So one can immediately overwrite the content. To select the content of a inputbox one have to doubleclick the content or tripleclick if there are spaces in the content.

hello mroe,
I think you didnt get my issue clearly. I am stating that the content in the input box is getting selected (highlighted) after a double or triple click it is looking somewhat tedious when comparing with windows word whereas in word it is getting highlighted (i.e getting selected that blue color fill over the digit) at the first click itself. So that in Aoo 4.1.0 also we can make the same correction. Getting highlighted at the first click itself.

As I read the description, I was not quite sure which issue this report is pointing out. However, those two picture in the attachment helped me understanding the report. I successfully replicated the bug in Apache_OpenOffice_4.2.0_Win_x86 build. I also selected some words, then moved my cursor to the font size or style drop down box. The font size was still not selected. This bug may seem to be a minor issue. However, fixing it can provide a better user experience.
                                                                          9/30/2016

I looked into this issue by investigating how the behavior differs between different OpenOffice products and on the other hand competitive products.

CONFIGURATION:
Windows 7 Enterprise SP1
OpenOffice 4.1.3 (English [US])
Microsoft Office 2013
LibreOffice 5.2.3.3

*OpenOffice 4.1.3*

** Writer (attached a GIF animation demonstrating how the product behaves when you click font size field - I will call it Highlight In 3rd Click [HI3C])
** Calc (HI3C)
** Impress (HI3C)
** Draw (HI3C)

CONCLUSION: In OpenOffice products it appears to be a default approach to NOT highlight font size when you click it first time

--------------------------------------

*OpenOffice 3.4.1*

** Writer (HI3C)
** Calc (HI3C)
** Impress (HI3C)
** Draw (HI3C)

CONCLUSION: In OpenOffice products it appears to be a default approach to NOT highlight font size when you click it first time

--------------------------------------

*Microsoft Office 2013*

** Word (attached a GIF animation demonstrating how the product behaves when you click font size field - I will call it Highlight In 1st Click [HI1C])
** Excel (HI1C)
** Powerpoint (HI1C)

CONCLUSION: In Microsoft Office 2013 products it appears to be a default approach to highlight font size when you click it first time

--------------------------------------

*LibreOffice 5.2.3.3*

** Writer (HI3C)
** Calc (HI3C)
** Impress (HI3C)

CONCLUSION: In LibreOffice products it appears to be a default approach to NOT highlight font size when you click it first time

--------------------------------------

*Other Products*

** Google Docs (HI1C)
** Wordpad (HI1C)

CONCLUSION: In two competitive products it appears to be a default approach to highlight font size when you click it first time

--------------------------------------

SUMMARY

From user perspective the behavior (HI3C) of OO is not consistent with competing products and requires a bit more clicking to change the size. It is good to note though that the behavior is consistent inside OO products itself.

It's also good to note that this pattern reflects to other fields (e.g. Apply Style or Font Name) - OO doesn't highlight those and competitive products (excluding LibreOffice) do. If you would change just Font Size field behavior, it would be inconsistent with other fields (e.g. Font Name field).

I tried to find a conversation about the history of this behavior in OpenOffice forums, but didn't manage to find it. Considering that OpenOffice has behaved this way at least until from 3.4.1, suggests that it's been working like this for a long time, perhaps since LibreOffice development started.
