An example of User Field that don't fit the fix size dialog

For this use case there are over 2,200 User Fields. The User Field name must be long to be unique. The "Field" dialog box can not be resized to that the full name can be seen either in the "Name" text box or the "Selection" list. Please allow the "Field" dialog to be resized and to remember it last size each time the "Field" dialog is opened again.

Why using so many fields?
I saw your document, maybe use a mail merge as a catalog will be better.

Userfields also a good way for using it in auto text or by programming features.

IMO resizing is good but not the best. For the dialog it is a missing feature that there is no tool tip for longer user field names.

The reason the document has so many fields is because of what the document does. The document is an install cookbook for an enterprise middleware cluster of servers. The document it self is over 450 pages. I would gladly show it to you on a web meeting if you like. A mail merge would be of no value, because there are no tables or records.

One point on the idea of Hover Help(tool tip) for long field names, if I may. You have to move your mouse to get it to work. As can been seen on the attached screen capture for this feature request, a user can have more then one User Field have its name get cut off from view. Forcing the user to move the cursor over every field is not user friendly. And in most cases for me the whole User Field Name list can be filled with the same sequence of letters because the last (out of view) part the the User Field Name is what makes the name unique. In my humble opinion minimizing cursor moving would be best. Let the user change the size of the dialog having all the list boxes and input text boxes expand in proportion.

I believe it is worth mentioning how to get to the specific window referenced. Even though it may be obvious to some, it can save other people some time. It personally took me a few minutes to find it.

Ctrl +F2
or
Insert > Fields > Other…

The reason why I find this issue troubling is because if the user is allowed to customize the fields, they should be able to properly see the name they have assigned to a field as it can eliminate confusion between fields with the same first letters. Several potential solutions have been mentioned in comments above.
A potential issue with window resizing is that it will not fix the problem for really long names. Even if you can get the fields dialog box as big as your screen, a large enough name will still be cut off. A potential solution might be the Hover tool tip mentioned earlier that could be used in the Name box in addition to stretching it to take up more space than it currently does. For the selection box, a potential solution could be splitting the names into different lines and have some way of indicating that several lines are part of one word. This could work as there is already a scroll bar integrated in the selection box.

Example: (using an indent after the first line to indicate that subsequent lines are still part of the first)

bash_compressed
_file_location

Example of possible solution

I tried to illustrate what I meant in my previous comment.
