Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 126991
Typing/Deleting text from the Sender textbox in Envelope window crashes Writer
Last modified: 2016-11-25 03:20:50 UTC
Fresh installation, repeatable every time. If I use the Insert->Envelope function and go to the Sender textbox (which is populated with my name from setup) and delete any of the blank spaces after that, writer crashes. However if I just modify the text and add my address to it, and leave the blank spaces alone, I can get an envelope to run. I was going to take a video of the bug however now that I've entered text into the Sender box and it's been saved for future use, this bug no longer seems to rear it's head. Only thing I can think to tell you now is that during setup I entered my First name, Last name and added middle initial, directly went into Writer and this problem persisted until I was able to get my address in the box, and now it seems to have dissapeared.
I was not able to reproduce what you described with AOO 4.1.2 and Debian 8 Lxde. "Fresh installation" does not means that is a good installation. Are you sure to run install with admin privileges?

(In reply to oooforum (fr) from comment #2) > No news from OP since +15 days: closed Sorry guys I got busy with life/business. Here you go, in the description of the video you will find a brief description of my actions, as well as the crash dumped in the Windows Event Viewer. https://youtu.be/KaVb0gN_XPE Yes I know my address is in the video, it's ok it is a business address. The video is unlisted and will be deleted after this issue is addressed.
Also me launching regedit was just to make sure the address wasn't stored in the registry, I then remembered OO stores settings in Appdata\Roaming\OpenOffice so I deleted that folder to simulate a clean installation where a user has never ran the app before.
Your video shows that you have run install process directly from IE. To be sure that AOO has got correct rights, you should execute installation as administrator.
The manifest file embedded in the AOO installer forces a run as Administrator, my screen capturing software may not have captured the elevated prompt from Windows consent.exe. Therefore it was installed using Administrator rights.

(In reply to Andreea Vescan from comment #7) > Created attachment 85766 [details] > Investigation Remark 1: I have use both cases (1. Setup and 2. Delete the AppData/Roming/OpenOffice directory) to have the system in the Fresh installation state when applying the steps of the test. The behavior is the same. Remark 2: I have also apply the same tests for the newest version of the OpenOffice, i.e. 4.1.3 and the behavior is the same. The bug persists. Best, Andreea
(In reply to Andreea Vescan from comment #7) > Created attachment 85766 [details] > Investigation Speculation and evaluation section - updated - Hypothesis for the underlying fault: only after inserting an envelope (clicking the Insert button in the Envelope window) and close the application OpenOffice the bug is no longer active, thus "something" is done/executed when an envelope is correctly created and application closed. - Is the information credible/useful? - This could signal to the developer to look in this part of source code related to closing the application. - Facts to support the evaluation - The tests provided in the Follow-up testing support the evaluation. the behavior of the bug is reproduced. - Importance of the problem to the customer - Because the bug reveals the first time the user uses the Envelop functionality, the customer may think that the application is not reliable and not working properly and may not try for a next try. A further serious effect could be that the user stop using the OpenOffice for other functionalities also. Remark: I have try to investigate this bug on other word processing tools, i.e Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010. The bug is not present. Best, Andreea
I can also confirm the bug still exists in version 4.1.3. And Andrea is correct in saying that once an envelope or the settings save correctly in the Insert Envelope window this bug will go away, if you reset your installation however it re-appears.
