Attached Presentation file does not show 
animation in the slide show.

when exported to POwerpoint however, powerpoint 
animates the appearance of the text.

BH -> SJ: The bug is reproducable:
-create a textobject, assign an effect,
-uncheck the option "Animation allowed" in presentation settings,
-export the file to PPT -> after starting the presentation the animation
nevertheless runs.

Import and export from PPT-files with animated graphics works great in the
latest version (OOo1.1).
I close the issue.
