Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 15795
Caption for Picture - enable position of first
Last modified: 2014-04-17 11:09:20 UTC
Add a caption for a picture in Writer ie: Created new text file, Insert - graphics - from file, added picture to document, right click on picture and choose caption ---- Problems: Problem 1: Writer adds Illustration 1, Illustration 2, etc, to caption automatically without giving user option to not do that. You have to go back in document and manual erase what Writer added to your caption. In example, you make the caption "Test", and Writer adds the caption to document "Illustration 1 Test". Expected Result: You add caption "Test" and you get caption "Test" Actual Result: You add caption "Test" and you get caption "Illustration 1 Test" ---- Problem 2: Position select Below, Above, for where to put caption in relation to the body of the picture doesn't work right. When you add a caption, select doesn't work, and caption will go below picture by default. If you add a second caption, you can choose Position Below or Above. Expected Result: I can choose to put my caption above or below the picture when I first access the caption feature. Actual Result: I can only choose to put a caption above the picture the second time I add a caption. ------ Problem 3: Add a caption choosing the below position (You don't have any choose anyway, see problem 2) Add another caption choosing the below position. The second caption will have "Text 1" added to it instead of "Illustration 1", see problem 1. Very odd behavior. Expected Result: If I add a caption "test this" and "test this too" to the bottom of the picture, I get "test this" and "test this too" added to the bottom of the picture. Actual Result: I get "Illustration 1 test this" and "Text 1 test this too" added to the bottom of the picture. ------ (FYI See issue 15793 for some save problems with captions in different formats)

Problem 1 is written as a bug, but is more like a feature request; you would like to have captions that don't have any numbering, right? Problem 2: Confirmed. Problem 3: Related to problem 1. By default OOo likes numbering captions (which I personally like too), but it would be better if OOo also supported disabeling numbering.
Hmmm. Missed this: One can always select <None> for category. This would be the answer to Problem 1 & 3 right?
To grep the issues easier via "requirements" I put the issues currently lying on my owner to the owner "requirements".
1. Open an odt file from file new file. 2. Insert an image in the file, by selecting Insert- > picture -> select file 3. Try to insert the caption by right clicking on the image and selecting caption option. 4. After entering the text in the Caption text area the Writer automatically inserts the caption below the image with “Illustration 1” extra added. Also it will not allow us to place the caption where ever we want. It will put the caption below directly. 5. If you try to add another caption it automatically puts the “Illustration 2 “ and adds the given text and puts it below the First caption. 6. Now if we add the third caption it comes with “ Text 1 “ added to it instead of Illustration 3 or something like that.
