Description rblackeagle 2003-07-21 20:17:50 UTC
Some style sheets require that the chapter number and the chanpter name be on
separate lines, like this:
Chapter 1
What I did about my mother-in-law.

Now, if I define the second element as "Heading 2" so I can reference it on page
headers ("Chapter <ch no>: <ch title>"), it works just fine. However, in the
TOC, the style sheets say it should read: "Chapter 1: What I did about my
mother-in-law .................. <page no>". At present, there seems to be no
way to do this. A suggestion is to permit a definition of "chapter reference"
that would not be printed or visible in WYSIWYG mode but would be used by TOC
and page headers alike.

An alternative would be to add the same functionality to the TOC generator that
is found in the header. I suggested a low resolution priority because it seems
to affect few people, but for those it affects, this can be a serious problem.

A better way of implementing your idea, in my eyes, is to have the option to
insert a line feed after the outline number in > Tools > Outline...

What you suggest is to implement a possible workaround for something that needs
to be solved in a way more consistent with the present outline concept.

Anyway. I will change the summary, set this to new and see what the developers
think about it.

I am continuing being busy with RFEs on outlining so this Issue gets another
change of summary to have it appear in search lists on "outline".

I like your suggestion. Seems like it would work.

As a workaround, go to Tools -> outline numbering -> Position tab. In the field
"minimum space numbering <-> text" put a number similar to the width of your
text area: that moves the text of your title to the following line and is not
reflected in the TOC.
NOTE: remember to put a space between the number and the text, otherwise the
first character of the word remain in the first line!

To grep the issues easier via "requirements" I put the issues currently lying on
my owner to the owner "requirements".
