Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 19297
WW8: Change tracking not handling bulleted paragraph correctly
Last modified: 2017-05-20 11:22:30 UTC
I have a document that was created in MS Word 97 and doesn't open properly in OpenOffice 1.1RC4. If you compare the two, OOo inserts some blank lines and extra bullet points. Also, the margains heve been set in MS Word at: Top: 1cm Bottom: 1.5cm Left: 1cm Right: 1cm OOo has made them all 1cm. So with the extra lines and bullet points and the different margins, the document is 4.5 x A4 pages long in MS Word 97, and 5.5 x A4 pages long in OOo. I will send you a copy of the document. Take heart though, as the MS Word compatibility has *dramatically* improved from earlier versions. :-)))
Created attachment 9114 [details] The MS Word 97 document that we are having some problems with.
Actually the margins are good, word and writer talk about slightly different things in the vertical margins. In writer the value is 1 but the header it 0.5, that's equivalent to word's 1.5 for the bottom margin. i.e. writer talks about the distance to the outside of the header/footer, while word talks about the distance to the main text area. Anyhow, the remaining problems are change tracking, if you enable show changes in word and writer the reason for the major difference is revealed. The redlining doesn't properly encompass the bullets of redlined paragraphs. Which is a known to-do. So its a change tracking import issue.
jw: reeassigned to mru can you please take a look at it?
The different value for bottom page border is due to the different algorithm, OO and Word use to calculate the size/position of the footer. Have a closer look at the page layout, and you will see, that the borders are on the same position.
See e.g. on page 2, there are many empty paragraphs added after import.
Target 2.0
I hate changetracking.
cmc->mmaher: Change tracking stuff, dvo may be able to help.
Because of a shortage of resources we're not able to promise to fix this issue for OOo 2.0
mmaher->flr: Yours I think
