Description issues@www 2000-10-21 02:26:55 UTC
I know its probably a bug with the original bugzilla code - but so far
I have lost two bug submissions because of not choosing a valid component.
What happens is I forget to choose a component - I get to the next page
and then I hit back - and I lose - because the data is lost. That can
get real frustrating real quick.

this is an issuezilla feature 'tools' is for OpenOffice tools
Comment 2 Unknown 2000-10-21 05:36:44 UTC
It is unlikely we'll be able to fix this problem as the issue mostly
(IMHO) resides in your browser or it's lack of functionality. In my
experience, most browsers on Windows and Linux will maintain form data when you
hit "back." I believe issuezilla relies on this behavior, and it is probably
not so wonderful to force people to go "back" when issuezilla could just compute
which information it still needs, and present, dynamically, the missing
information in a form. It's again unlikely we could or would invest this
level of re-engineering into customizing Buzilla this way. However, such
features are entirely with the realm of possiblities for our upcoming update to
the SourceCast Issue tracking system on openoffice.org -- to scarab
(scarab.tigris.org).

It is most likely this issue, if ongoing, should be addressed LATER,
in Scarab. Thus my change of the resolution of this issue to that value.
Unless this is one of those bugs that takes out a huge portion of the usership
of OpenOffice, e.g. "breaks in internet explorer" or "breaks in netscape",
"breaks in mozilla" I would imagine this will turn out to be the case.

You may also want to report this as a bug or mis-feature with your current
web-browser. A whole bunch of forms on the internet rely on not losing data when
you go "back" -- and the most annoying ones are the ones that'll lose form data
even with browsers that do maintain "state" in their forms....

What Browser are you using?

accepting issue

Resolution is 'LATER' as in, we don't believe we will be able to resolve
this class of error in IssueZIlla. We should address in Scarab and determine
if this is a critical issue to resolve prior to scarab deployment on oo.org.

Update: After the next upgrade, forgetting to enter a component,
description or summary should no longer cause data to be lost. Either
a popup window or a new screen requesting that the fields be completed
should appear.
Action Plan: Adding Truckee 1 to target milestone. Let's confirm this
behavior when the staging server for the next upgrade becomes available.
Thanks,
Kristen
