Description Unknown 2001-11-29 18:02:03 UTC
From My understanding of how clipboards work, there are two types (X Original,
and MOTIF) - it appears that OpenOffice is not doing one, or both quite correctly.

I can Cut and Paste via the standard highlight/middle button click just fine
between OpenOffice and X Applications(Xterm, rxvt, xjed), but it doesn't work
between OpenOffice and KDE - KDE to Gnome apps works fine (KMail to Mozilla,
Evolution, Nautilus), KDE to X works fine,(and both cases vice-versa) but
OpenOffice to KDE, and KDE to OpenOffice is broken. Due to the fact that KDE
appears to work just fine with all other apps, this leads me to think that there
is still some imperfection in the OpenOffice clipboard handler.

Environment:
KDE 2.2.2 (also 2.2.1)
XFree86 Version 4.1.0.1 w/ XRender on
Linux i686 (Kernel 2.4.9)
OpenOffice 638/641

Thanks.

I tried from Calc and Writer to KWrite and KWord for instance -> nothing comes out. I noticed the same different behaviour OOo <-> X apps = works ; OOo <-> KDE Apps = doesn't work.

If using the primary selection one format of the provided formats is
selected automaticly. I guess the behaviour will be the same if using
the clipboard selection but using "edit/paste special"
with "Unformatted text" will work.

Phillip, can you please take a look at this.

reproducible in 641s
Comment 6 philipp.lohmann 2001-12-12 19:07:30 UTC
KDE uses different Atoms for the same types. Fixed in toplevel.

KDE is changing the ways its clipboard works in version 3.0.
See http://dot.kde.org/1013076354/.

For reference about how X clipboard should be handled, this article
written by Jamie Zawinski is a must-read:

both true, but the actual must read is

ftp://ftp.x.org/pub/R6.6/xc/doc/hardcopy/ICCCM/

and IMHO it is about time that KDE gets compliant again.
