Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 23801
Autocorrect and confirmation at first occurence
Last modified: 2013-08-07 14:38:26 UTC
Hi, a user of Czech version suggested this enhancement: OOo is often over-intelligent with autocorrect turned on (this is the default). E.g. we have many names and words with TWo INitiall LEtters in CApital, like EBanka etc. It would be nice to confirm or decline the usage of this specific (and others too) autocorrect feature at the first run. The situation would be: - User first starts OOo - he writes the word EBanka - after space, the word is changed to Ebanka and the dialog will pop-up informing the user about this specific autocorrect feature. User now can press: - Accept in this case (also means do not ask in the future and apply this autocorrect feature in the future) - Decline (and disable this autocorrect feature) - maybe other modifications (like Accept or Decline with "Apply this specific AutoCorrect feature in the future" checkbox turned on by default) IIRC there was a similar feature in the past.
Some words about the current behaviour: If the AutoCorrection is done the HelpAgent Window pops up. This is not as annoying as a pop-up dialog. Additionally if Undo is pressed the AutoCorrection is undone and the changed word is added to the exception list for words with two initial capitals and it will never be autocorrected again.

reassign
I also strongly vote against a popup-window. The help-agent is discrete but already annoys some people. Having a popup-dialog will really pi^H^Hdisgruntle many users. And since as os mentioned "undo" will add the word to the exception list, I suggest closing this one as wontfix. In the past, the help-agent opened a window at the bottom of the screen and directly showed the help-text in that window. Now it only shows the helptext on request (when one clicks on the bulb). The new behaviour is better than the old one IMHO. But both are better than a dialog that you'll have to accept/decline.
