Description heywood 2003-12-26 04:35:42 UTC
A recent PPT presentation of mine exposes a large number of
import filter problems when imported into the latest stable
build of OOo (1.1.0). Virtually all of these are verified to
exist on Win2K, Mac OSX (under Apple X11), and Linux (under
XFree86 4.3.0).

I have cut out all the slides that import correctly from the
original PPT file, and documented the errors in the remaining
slides as specifically as possible. I will try to attach the
PPT file and my notes (plain text) to this issue as soon as I
submit it.

Reassigned to Christian.
Comment 4 heywood 2003-12-28 04:00:49 UTC
The reference to "slide 38" in the comments on slide 15
should actually refer to "slide 16" instead (sorry about
that...). -H
Comment 5 heywood 2004-01-04 01:38:25 UTC
Comment regarding slide 5 is moot. The problem is in the original presentation
as well.
Comment 6 heywood 2004-01-04 01:41:34 UTC
Just noticed I forgot to mention an important pre-requisite
regarding the math equations throughout the presentation.
Either Mathtype or MS Equation Editor *must* be installed
on the machine running Powerpoint in order to render the
equations correctly. Otherwise it will be difficult to
compare what they should look like with how OO renders them.

I can see the bug and the description file is very good.
Please have a look.
Comment 8 heywood 2004-01-07 17:31:24 UTC
Not sure if this is directly relevant to the importer,
but importing from the original PPT and then doing a
Save As... in the same PPT format (Win2000/Me/XP), without
any modifications whatsoever, results in a file that looks
just as bad when opened up in PPT.

Thus the exporter seems to faithfully reproduce the problems
introduced in the importing process, as described above.

SJ->CGU: Can you please breakdown this issue into single tasks, so we can
prioritise each defect on his own. And please keep in mind that many defects are
already double to existing bugs. Please also hand out the bugs to the
corresponding developer, I am not responsible for every bug that is listed, e.g.
there are some new impress features mentioned which are more adequate to be sent
to the user experience team or project owner. Thanks,
Sven

Sorry for the long delay.
Please write only one issue for each bug in future.
Some of the bugs are fixed in the latest 'Snapshot Developer Release'.
Other are already known and written in issues or q_pcds.
I will investigate the list and will have a look which bugs are already handeled.
I write new issues for the bugs which are not handeled jet.
Comment 11 heywood 2004-04-22 19:06:56 UTC
heywood->cgu: Sorry to lump all of these together -- this was the first bug
report I filed with OOo. At the time, it seemed more efficient to do it this way
because I could attach a single document that displayed all the bugs in one
place. Will try my best to file individual bug reports in the future.

In the meantime, let me know if there are any fixes for these bugs in 680_m34
that need testing on Win or Lin. I'd been looking at the changelogs for the past
few snapshots and it always seemed like many of the fixes were for the word
processor component, with only a few for presentation, so I haven't been testing
the snapshots so far. (I didn't understand the Q-PCD designation until just now.)

Cheers, H

First of all the fixed and the known bugs:
- Wrong size of 'graphics' and bounding boxes (slide 1, 3, 8, 9) is fixed.
- Arrows look different (slide 1) issue 166
- different or wrong animation (slide 3, 5, 8, 9, 23, 25, 27) issue 20477
- wrong path of the connectors (slide 29) internal bug 110364
Comment 13 heywood 2004-04-24 02:12:21 UTC
Verified graphics/bounding box fix looks good on Linux. Only weird thing is that
when the PPT is first opened on 680_m34, the planet earth on the slide 1 is
very, very small -- but paging ahead one slide and then back causes it to be
drawn at the correct size. However, this only seems to happen if I close the
"Preview" window before it renders the first slide.

Bullets, text, and formulas being drawn black instead of white (slides 1, 6, 10,
12-18, 24, and 26) *may* be related to issue 28252, but it doesn't look quite
the same.

New(?) bug: The JPEGs on slide 6 look fine in OOo 1.1.1, but on 680_m34 they
disappear. May be related to issue 22235, but that was marked fixed as of 1.1.1.
Also may be related to issue 24519, but the last comment there says it was
cleared up in 1.1.1rc -- so perhaps this is new (or re-broken)?
Comment 14 christian.guenther 2004-04-26 08:45:51 UTC
I wrote some issues on Friday for the bugs which are not fixed and not known.
Unfortunately I had not enough time to write the issue IDs in this issue.
the issues are:

Bullets have wrong color - issue 28259
OLE looks different - issue 28265
wrong z-order (white boxes in front of graphics) - issue 28269
Math objects are black - issue 28270
Bounding boxes are too small - issue 28282

And I wrote 2 Feature tasks:

Hatchings (Patterns) in lines - issue 28283
Dottet lines need squared and round dots. - issue 28284

The missing OLE-Server on Slide 18 is not a bug.
You need the MS-aplication as OLE-server. If there is no OLE server (No MS
Office) you get the OLE-Error. To convert the OLEs in OOo OLEs while loading you
must select the options below [L] in 'Tools , Options , Load/Save , Microsoft
Office'

Slide 5: I don't know if the pos of the object is wrong or the Line spacing of
the text. I examine it and write an issue when I know the bug.

I can't reproduce the bugs on slide 18 (Double click ) and on slide 20.
Comment 15 heywood 2004-04-26 17:32:46 UTC
heywood->cgu: thanks for all your hard work writing the individual issues. will
have a look at slides 5, 18, and 20 and post follow-up(s) if necessary. cheers, H

I think all bugs are handeld therefore I close this issue as invalid.
Comment 17 christian.guenther 2004-06-04 10:51:08 UTC
I close the issue
