The exact text of the final misleading paragraph of this document is

To check out a CVS module, enter a command similar to the following:

% cvs co -r milestone-build OpenOffice/project-name
</quote>

This suggests that to checkout for example the starmath project that
% cvs co -r milestone-build OpenOffice/starmath
would work, of course, as the next example shows, it should be
% cvs co -r milestone-build starmath

suggest change to
% cvs co -r milestone-build project-name
