Please provide means for configuring font comboboxes (i.e. whether to draw preview of fonts in them) by right clicking on them. That would be very intuitive.
Reassigned to Falko, who is responsible for evaluating enhancements.
Sorry, I am not getting what you mean. Need more information on this.
I meant - when you right click on font selection box, a popup menu appears with item "Configure" in it. After selecting this item user will be presented with dialog for setting font selection widget options (currently it seems only one checkbox "Show font previews" should be in it, but more could be needed in the future).
I thought about this feature for a while and I still don't feel comfortable when trying to imagine such a feature. As of today, there aren't too many controls in OO.o that can be configured with their popup menu - I tend to say there aren't any. Do you know any other application that offers this feature (for controls in general, for combo boxes especially)? Adding this feature to only a few controls would result in an irritating situation for the user: Which controls can be configured immediately, which can't? How do you want to avoid users stepping into dead ends, when they look for a configuration possibility in popup menues and there isn't any? Last but not least my personal opinion is that combo boxes are the most inappropriate control for adding a popup menu at all. The two different parts of a combo box behave different and are handled differently. Do you want to offer two different popup menues on those controls?
Just scrolling fonts list with fonts previews is very annoying (it's slow even on my PIII-800 IMO) - so any user will want to turn font previews off I think. As for no tradition of configuring controls via right click - I think that most control's right click menu could be extended in the future - and as for now, we can just add a single item "What's this?.." that will pop up the context help for that control (there is such functionality in OO implemented AFAIR - there is a special "tool" on toolbar). MSOffice 2k doesn't allow to configure individual controls on toolbar though - right click menu contains only means to turn several group of buttons on toolbar on or off. And of course the same popup menu should be popped up for both subcontrols of combobox..
How important do you think this feature would be to the general end user? I'm not talking about advanced users like you and me, and alo not about "dummies" who just don't know nothing. I'm talking about the general day-to-day OO.o user, the one who is supposed to do his office-like work with OO.o. My concern is that this feature - regardless how powerful it may be - would confuse most of our users. Not in the sense that they wouldn't understand it, but it would be yet another option or possibility in addition to the many, many others, they might have seen once but never used. How would you feel driving in a car with 700 pedals with you only knowing (and using) two or three of them? Would that improve your card driving? What I'm trying to say is, that we should be very carefully with UI enhancements in OO.o. I think it's dangerous to just add here and there some smaller pieces without trying to put them into a general concept. So I'm not saying "no" to your idea for an enhancement. I'm just a little cautiously asking for your opinion on this. Why not trying to convince me with a more complete concept?

Hi Vlad, if I don't hear back from you, does this mean you're no longer interested in this feature? That would be a great relief, especially because you can switch the font preview off under "Tools - Options - OO.o - View - Preview in fonts lists". Can we close this issue?
Reassigned to BH.
This issue is rejected now as the option can be switched via Tools / Options.
