Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 27020
insert OOo draw into Writer document (sxw)
Last modified: 2013-02-07 22:34:11 UTC
This submission is a result of the following topic in OOo forum: http://www.oooforum.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6108 If I want to insert an OOo drawing into a document (e.g. sxw) and I use the Insert>Graphics option I will never be able to insert it since it is not even listed among „All formats”. One has to find out that an OOo drawing is an OLE object (no simple end user ever knows what on earth an OLE object is!) and then it can be inserted through that option It would be much better if *.sxd files were listed among the possible graphic formats. All the more so, since for a simple user (particularly „non-English-mother- tongued”) such words as image picture graphic drawing painting all mean fairly similar things. In short: a drawing is a graphic (at least linguistically). (However, this is an age-long debate whether words of everyday use should be allowed to take on a strictly profession-bound meaning particularly when it is not even related to the every-day meaning.) Suggestion: *.sdw format may ALSO remain under its present location (OLE) but it should ALSO appear among format under Graphics. Thank you very much.
Changed to issue type enhancement. Reassigned to Bettina.
I agree. It would make sense to me, that three options should be given to the user to insert an object from draw : - insert all the pages from the drawing (as if they were entire pages from writer => 1 page in draw would show as a page in writer (with the same page format...)) - insert one page only from the draw - insert only a part of a page (a selection) That would ease the manipulation of objects between the different modules.
