Description lohner 2004-05-05 20:31:09 UTC
The OOo title displays little boxes instead of the document title. The same
thing happens in the save dialog, in the pulldown in the navigator dialog, and
in several other places- i don't remember them all right now. The spacing in
these locations is also off, leading to characters overwriting each other.

I would attach a .jpeg, but can't see how to attach anything to this bug.

what is the real documents title ?

Please Attach the documents which make this problem, so we can test it/faster
to confirm.
(Without the documents, we cannot confirm the problem easily/need more time)
Don't forget to cut other part of the documents, so the file size is small,
but we still able to see the problem.

If your documents is confidential, please change the word/character in
your documents, so it is not easy to read. example change all a with o, change
i with u, change o with x, change t with l and others.
Comment 3 lohner 2004-05-06 07:44:30 UTC
Here is the attachment that shows the behavior. The document was initially a MS
Word file (possibly generated in asia) which I then loaded normally into OO. The
problem is (probably) that the File->Properties->Description->Title contains the
junk that is seen in the other dialogs. The junk might be asian characters.

.sxw file to reproduce the problem- check the file title in the properties
Comment 5 lohner 2004-05-06 07:49:26 UTC
OK, I just confirmed it: it is the title in the file properties. Removing it,
saving, and reopening the doucment causes OOo to use the filename in all of the
dialogs instead of the title, and this solves the problem.

Nevertheless, there seem to be several problems here:
- The kerning is just plain wrong and strange anywhere the title is displayed
with an unknown characterset
- if the characterset is unknown, OOo should switch to the filename instead of
title wherever that needs to be displayed.

MRU->ES: there seem to be stored some illegal chars in the DocTitle. Please have
a look.
Comment 7 hdu@apache.org 2004-05-06 14:17:27 UTC
The document name from the File->Properties dialog has the following unicodes:
U+FEF1 U+FEF1 U+FEF1 U+FEF1 U+FEF1 U+0020 U+FEF1 U+FEF1 U+FEF1 U+FEF1 U+FEF1
It looks like the *.doc import filter messed the documents name up.

I cannot reproduce the other problem with the wrong "kerning". Anyway, the
biggest problem is the incorrect import of the document name.

-> lohner: do you still habve the original Word document?
If yes, please attach it.

Word file to reproduce the problem in OOo.

Removed needmoreinfo from the keywords as the Word document to reduce the
problem has been attached.

In Word the document title (File - Properties - Summary - Title) shows the same
invalid square characters. It means OOo does not fail to import the characters
correctly: they are already broken.

Concerning the rendering of this title in the message box, I can reproduce it in
OOo 1.1.1 but not anymore in src680m37 -> fixed

In 680m45 the problem still exists in the navigator window and the save dialog.
The boxes are also displayed in the title. Tee bug is not fixed, and looks
just like it did in the previous versions. I'm under Windows XP, and used the
.sxw file in this bug to reproduce it,

ES->HDU
There are 2 problems:
1) the boxes in the title (and in other UI element): This is NOT an OOo bug. The
document is broken.

2) the wrong rendering in the save warning (screenshot): I think you know about
this problem. You told me you had fixed something in a m37 and indeed I couldn't
reproduce it anymore.
I can reproduce it again in a m47
