Description wsemmelink 2004-05-14 13:22:18 UTC
The Open Office 1.1.1 release notes state that Call 11929 was fixed - page
borders export blank to Word 97 format. I would like to re-open the call, as the
border still does not export correctly. I logged a new call as I was unable to
re-open a closed call.

The attached files should explain the problem. Do the following:
1. Configure Open Office Word processor to save as Word 97/2000/xp by default.
2. Use attached file called test1.dot. [The file was set up in Word 2000
9.0.3821 SR-1] to have a border about 1 cm from the page edges. Open with Open
Office 1.1.1 Save as Test2.doc and exit OpenOffice.
3. Open Test2.doc - it should look like Test2.jpg attached. Note the border
moved slightly closer to the page edges. Save as Test3.doc and exit OpenOffice.
4. Open Test3.doc - it should look like Test3.jpg attached. Note the border
moved even closer to the page edges. Save as Test4.doc and exit OpenOffice.
5. Open Test4.doc - it should look like Test4.jpg attached. Note the border
touches three of the four page edges.
By the seventh iteration, the frame is completely off-page and can not be seen
at all. By the eighth or ninth try, the page looks like the image in test8.jpg
attached; with text reformatted in a narrow vertical column and almost
invisible. Try it twice more, and suddenly, the entire document is blank. Note
that Open Office now displays it has 50 pages, whereas the original only started
with 3 pages.
I think my call 29188 is related to this call.

This problem is not related to issue 11929. In 11929 the problem was, that the
page border got completely lost on first save of the doc.
Here, the problem is an incompatibility between OO Writer and MS Word. As you
can see in Writer's dialog Format.Page.Border, it is possible to set a spacing
of the border to the text body. This is measured from the fixed border to the
inner text. Word does it the other way round. There the text border is fixed and
the border line will be drawn around it with the spacing measured to the outer.

MRU->MMAHER: perhaps the im-/export filter could "tweak" a little bit with it
and re-calculate the page border spacing? If not, the issue must be assigned to
BH if the behaviour should be changed.

mmaher->flr: Yours I think

Considering the effort, the priority, the risk and our resource planning I've to
target this issue to OOo Later.
