Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 29726
no compatibility with Endnote bibliography program
Last modified: 2008-05-17 23:57:20 UTC
Endnote, a bibliography program on which I maintain a database of over 3000 scientifc articles, can be used as an add-in with microsoft word, where it can automatically format in-text citations, footnotes, endnotes, and bibliographies with ease for a huge selection of journal-specific styles. It would be nice if Endnote could be used as an add-in in open-office, or at least if your biblio database could import from an endnote file. The interest in this project is that a large part of the scientific community has become endnote-dependent, and having an alternative to the microsoft-endnote couple would attract users who, like myself, are discouraged because we don't have a similar advantage in open-office. I also recommend to those working on the biblio end of things to check out endnote for very useful features.
Please have a look at this. You can besser tell if it's just a duplicate or a new enhancement proposal. Thank you
Thank you for the comments regarding Endnote. Unfortunately, I do not think there is much we can do about making Endnote work with Openoffice, this would have to be done by the Endnote developers, or they would have to supply the information about how to do inter-work with their product, and then some someone would have to volunteer to do the work. The Bibliographic project is aware of Endnote's features and it is a model for the functionality we would like to build into Openoffice. Regarding Importing Endnote files, check whether Endnotes can export bibtex format as we have an experimental bibtex import filter. There are also bibliographic conversion utilities so it may be possible. Write to dev@bibliographic.openoffice.org if you need some help. I will set this request to be a duplicate to the head bibliographic improvement issue # 4260 Regards David Wilson *** This issue has been marked as a duplicate of 4260 ***
Officially, Endnote 7 works together with OpenOffice - not in the way comparing MS Word - but with a so-called "RTF Document Scan". I have not tested it yet because I am fine with my own solution...
