Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 31678
mirroring metafile (effects->flip) does not work (rotates instead)
Last modified: 2017-05-20 11:29:20 UTC
I could not find a way of really mirroring an object (the object I used was a bitmap graphic I think). Unfortunately, the flip function does not exist for diagonally and the mirror function seems to rotate my object at the same time as flipping it. This seems to be related to issue 13408 which apparently has been resolved.
Have you tried the flip function from the toolbar? Select the object and drag out the effetcs fly out from the toolbar (10th from top in default installation), click on the flip button (second in the first row): you get a red line in the middle which represents the mirror-axis. You can shift it when dragging the two crosses. So you can get diagonal mirroring as well. Does it fit your needs?
Thanks for the swift comments. This is what I meant by mirror: effects->flip (if you hold on the mirror icon it says flip). I do get the red line and I can move the red line diagonally. However, when I flip the image over I do get a rotation instead. I have reproduced this with OO 1.1.1 under windows and under linux. Here an illustration: OOO XOO XOO with the mirror line from top right to bottom left should give: OOO OOO XXO but instead it comes out as: XXO OOO OOO which I would rather call a rotation. Are you able to reproduce this?

Sorry this works like expected here. I attached a file showing what I do. When you have placed the mirror line do you pull one of the green handles over the line to mirror? How do you execute the mirroring?
I can reproduce the correct mirror with the attached file. I will submit my file where the image gets rotated instead of mirrored to wg directly so that he can reproduce the fault.

The bugdoc contains a metafile, what seems to be the problem. When the metafile is converted to a bitmap it works well. Thanks for your help. Issue is reproducible. Reasigned to Christian.
Set to new.
Changed subject a little bit.
This problem is still true, six years after it was originally reported, on 3.2. Sadly, converting the metafile into a bitmap is not a good workaround because in this way you lost the vector properties for the image. Under some circumstances it is possible to convert the graph to "curve", but not always...
