Description niklas_a 2004-07-30 22:36:23 UTC
Assume I am writing the following sentence:
"It was the last day. then " (sic)

Both MS Word and OO.org will (correctly) change this the "then" into a
capitalized "Then". If I in MS Word use backspace to delete the autocorrected
word and again write "then" in lowercase it will remember my correction for that
specific sentence. OO.org does not.

SBA: The described case is the typical scenario of an abbreviation in the middle
of the sentence. The general goal is to "remember the abbreviation so that the
next word will not be auto-capitalized any more".

In OOo, the abbreviation list can be seen in the dialog
Tools-AutoCorrect/AutoFormat, tab page "Exceptions". Pleae note that this list
is language dependant.
The "Autoinclude" box is checked by default in order to have the described
"self-learning" effect of adding abbreviations the user runs into.

In MS Word as well as in OOo, there are several ways to automatically include
words into this abbreviation list right after the AutoCapitalisaton took place
(after the next word and the following space or punctuation mark is entered).

(1) By clicking the "Undo" icon
(2) With the keyboard shortcut for "Undo" (<Ctrl>+<Z>)
(3) By manually adding an abbreviation to the list via dialog
...and yet only in MS Word the described case:
(4) By deleting the last word entirely (using <Backspace>) and re-typing exactly
the same word.

Case (4) is the slowest but nevertheless an intuitive one as well.

I adjusted Summary to meet the findings (Old Summary: Implement MS Word
"self-learning" for autocorrection)

SBA->BH: So this Enhancement reads "Integrate Case (4) to ease OOo use for MS
Word users".

To grep the issues easier via "requirements" I put the issues currently lying on
my owner to the owner "requirements".
