Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 32392
Footnotes are not included in Alphabetical Index
Last modified: 2013-08-07 14:38:26 UTC
When building an alphabetical index, the text of footnotes is not searched. In critical editions, the footnotes may contain important information which is not included in the main text, and it is therefore crucial that footnotes (which may take up over 90% of the page some times) also be indexed.
MRU->ES: please comment on this.
.
ES->BH: the index entry dialog should be able to search in footnotes and in frames too.
Footnotes are not searched with sdi-file for concordance - not even in OOo 2.0.3. Your concordance algorithm is very fast and I'm working with ciritical editions too. So I would be very pleased to see this feature coming.
This issue has a working "macro" solution within issue #98937. I believe these two issues should be addressed at the same time, and a fully robust solution should be given to the alphabetic indexes. I have done as much as I can so far, but there is a lot I don't know, as I have only been doing OpenOffice macros for the last 2 weeks.
using OOo 3.1.1 The concordance file skips the footnotes. MsWord has no problem with the footnotes.
Without this feature, it is impossible to index a long document with many footnotes Please review: 1) The dialog-box (Click Insert > Indexes and Tables > Entry) 2) The concordance file
Please implemented this feature! OOo writer indexing tools needs improvement. Alphabetical index is CRUCIAL for academic use and publishing. Creating a basic working index requires a small, but essential set of functions. Missing one or more of these features severely affects the ability to create an effective index. I recommend reading this papaer (in particular pages 6 and 7) http://www.allegrotechindexing.com/indexingtools.pdf Issues very important Allowing more than one Alphabetical Index http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=6401 Footnotes are not included in Alphabetical Index http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=32392 Alphabetical Indexes cross-reference http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=104691 Index markers do not support cross references or bookmarks http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=24250 Alphabetical index: allow marking pages as entry range even if the keyword doesn't appear on every pages http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=94565 A very interesting idea Navigator should also list all Index Entries http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=61643
To grep the issues easier via "requirements" I put the issues currently lying on my owner to the owner "requirements".
Is very important to correct this behavior.
Please i need this! Would make my job much faster!
Why Writer has so many problems with the footnotes?
Is not assigned to anyone this issue? Helmut
Proposal: Page numbers for matter found in endnotes should be recorded like so: "206n 27"; for unnumbered or solitary footnotes, use this format: "206n, 212n." If the entry appears in the text and in a footnote on the same page, "n" is not necessary ("206," not "206n" or "206, 206n").
Only for the concordance file: Instead of rewriting the concordance algorithm could add two new algorithms: - one for Footnotes/Endnotes - another for frames A pop-up window to choose which algorithms to use: - Body text (as it is now) - Footnotes/Endnotes - Frames Maybe you can do with a Macro...
-> To: oooalpha Excellent, as The Chicago Manual of Style! If the page reference is in a note, the following convention is used:216n4 or 423nn4,5,6.“n” means “note”; “nn” means multiple notes on the same page. http://cambridge.org/us/notesforauthors/general_indexing.pdf (See page 5) or http://www.chicagomanualofstyle.org/ch18/ch18_toc.html (Free 30 day trial) Best of luck Jonathan
This is an annoying bug. http://www.oooforum.org/forum/viewtopic.phtml?t=61597
I. @oooalpha, @sandystw Footnote-Endnote info in alphabetical index? Good idea! http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=59295 But it is off topic :) II. Tips and Tricks, but does not work with the concordance file. http://www.mail-archive.com/users@openoffice.org/msg17540.html It can be done with a macro to the concordance file? III. I suggest you sync the Find & Replace with indexing tools. So you could use the research to paragraph styles, Regex, etc. IV. Please see also http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=88023
