Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 37291
Can't enter = (equal sign) in table without bypassing formula
Last modified: 2013-02-07 22:41:47 UTC
Can't enter = (equal sign) in table without bypassing formula To reproduce the bug: 1. insert table 2. type = in a cell. (The word processor automatically goes into formula mode) 3. type <enter> (nothing happens) Workaround: To type = in a cell 1. insert table 2. type <space> then = 3. move the cursor before = 4. delete <space> 5. enter to commit change Suggestion: Word processor should concentrate on formating and not apply logic to tables. If user require additional functions, they can do it in spreadsheet and copy and paste it in word processor
This works as designed. An equal sign at the veginning of a table cell alway leads to formula entering mode. Only in the middle of cell content, the equal sign behaves "normal". MRU->BH: perhaps another option could be inserted for this or a thing like entering "=" at the beginning of a cell...

maybe it works as designed, but not as expected, especially from a users view. A word processor is a word processor, not a calc or spreadsheet. please implement what you have statet as a reaction to bug ID 47347: In Writer, you can disable this by right-clicking in a table and switching off "Number recognition". regards Thomas Every feature is a bug, unless it can be disabled.
This issue has been reported for a long time. Do you have an indication when we will get an option to turn off the formula starting when an equal sign is typed in a cell?
