Installation like previous StarOffice Installation, -n as root.
Then setup as user (enter personal details, JRE1.2.2-007, etc. without problem).
Running ./soffice starts and works some 10 seconds and comes back with prompt
without any error message; no message at all.

Can you give me a little more information about your linux?
- distribution
- kernel
- glibc
- cpu and ram
I've checked it on mandrake7.2 and suse6.4 without any problems.

No reaction for three weeks. 
No problems for me with 619.
