Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 39932
Root Paragraph Style Shown in Paragraph List Box Even if Not in Use
Last modified: 2013-08-07 14:38:26 UTC
http://specs.openoffice.org/writer/formatting/Assigning_Styles_in_Writer.sxw Show paragraph styles beside the standard ones only if they have been used in current document. Section 6.1 row 87: "+ all paragraph styles assigned in the current document and all styles which have been used in current document during current runtime regardless, if they are currently assigned to a paragraph or not."
Furthermore they have to bee shown in the list box even if they are currently not assigned to any paragraph but had been assigned during the current runtime.
MRU->ES: please assign to proper Dev contact. Thanks!

->fl: What is a "Root Paragraph Style"? I don't see a way to determine if a use defined style has ever been used (at least not for 2.0).
FL->OS: A root style for me is i.e. "Heading" if you have assigned "Heading n" inside the document, because then the hierarchal root style "Heading" is also shown in the LB even if not assigned to any paragraph inside the document. Regarding the appearance in that list: Wouldn't it be possible just not to remove paragraph styles from that list during runtime of a doc. Then all styles which have been used during runtime would be accessible for runtime.
A style is treated as used by the Writer core also if a depending style is in use. There's no way to change this for OOo 2.0. The lifetime of the controller is not the same as the lifetime of the document view. Switching contexts also switches the controller ( to frame styles ) and the controller may also be destroyed because the toolbox is beeing switched off.
I have added a comment in the spec. that we cannot implement that for OOo 2.0.
