Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 43641
"keep paragraph to table" should calculate differntly
Last modified: 2017-05-20 10:12:49 UTC
All, this issue appears with larger tables. If they require a page split (and "Allow tabe to split across pages anbd columns" is turned on), the page split will always occur before the table rather than with in the table. This leads to sometimes weird blank spaces within a document. I would expect the following behavior: 1) If "Allow tabe to split across pages anbd columns" is turned ON, the table should immediately follow after the text (maybe with some customizable Orphan/ Widow Control-like feature in order to avoid single table rows) 2) If "Allow tabe to split across pages anbd columns" is turned OFF, the table requires a page break and the table is smaller than a page, the table should start on the next page. 3) If "Allow tabe to split across pages anbd columns" is turned OFF, the table requires a page break and the table is larger than a page, then the table should start right after the text without any page break BEFORE the table. I will try to attach a sample doc. Best regards Tim

Problem here is the option "keep with next paragraph" in the table properties. If you switch this off, you will see the table end right at the bottom of page 2. Because of the option, the table is forced to sitck to the succeeding paragraph, which will mean, the table has to be rformatted and replaced in the document. Behaviour is correct as it reflects the table settings.
Closed.
I don't quite understand the answer. Why does a table to start on a new page, just because it needs to maintain its connection to the next paragraph? It could still start right after the text, have a page break somewhere inbetween and then be linked to the subsequent paragraph. In my opinion, the "Keep with next paragraph"-feature should only avoid a page break between the table and the following paragraph (and thus in specific cases shft the last row of a table on the next page). See, I have a long section in my document containing only headlines (linked to the subsequent paragraph), tables (also linked to the subsequent paragraph being the description) and the description itself. This entire section has a strange layout due to large blank spaces and page breaks before tables. I would like the tables to start right away with their descriptons linked to them. How do I achieve this? Thanks and best regards Tim
This is a request regarding the calcualtion of the "keep" attribute for tables. The table should not completely move to the next page if a pecial case occurs (like described above). This can only be done via an additional compatibility issue.
