Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 4498
Cursors are hard to see and unattractive
Last modified: 2013-02-07 22:36:03 UTC
I don't want to hurt any feelings, but I think the cursors are hard to see and quite unattractive. I don't like sharply angled cursors, I like ones like the default KDE cursors. To me, they should be easy to see and simple, because you spend a lot of time following them with your eyes. The default pointer icon and the hand are particularly hard to see and use.

I think it is very annoying that OOo touches my arrow pointer cursor at all. There used to be a time in the early 90ies, when many Unix/X programs did this (toggling Arrow left/right etc.). It simply is unacceptable today. Changing the cursor shape draws attention to itself -- in this case for no real reason. If it is not possible to use the default Cursors from the platform in all cases, then Unix builds should at least use the default X cursors from XFree86/X Consortium to minimize irritation. /ralph
Created attachment 24938 [details] Calc with different formats
With the attachment you could try easily: Select whole Column C, right-click on format-cell, default is number, click on OK, nothing is changed! Select C1:C3, same steps => format is changed! Select C1:C25, same steps => nothing is changed! I personally guess, it's not checked if the default-value has any change-effects and therefore ignores the OK, although the format of indiviual cells would be affected.
I have no problems with this on the newest Ubuntu releases anymore. I think the look and feel are native now. Perhaps this issue can be closed.
To grep the issues easier via "requirements" I put the issues currently lying on my owner to the owner "requirements".
