Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 46298
Install should install a start-menu item with -nodefault
Last modified: 2013-08-07 15:26:47 UTC
It should be possible to start from the menu with the -nodefault option switched on, in addition to all the create-new-document options, so that a user who wishes to start the application and open an existing document in the traditional manner (rather than opening the document on the desktop to start the application) can do so without the distraction of a null document. (The -nodefault option is also broken, but that's another Issue.) The Windows installer, at least, does not provide that.
of @ is: Is this a defect or an enhancement?
It's hard to say. On the one hand, it's adding a function that isn't in the beta. On the other hand, "Start the program without creating a new document in the process," seems like a /very/ silly function not to have, and 7/8 of new users are going to wonder what on Earth is going on when they can't find it.
S @ CJ: How do you think about this additional start menu entry?
This is an enhancement. This option helps more users who are experts and thus I think it does not make sense to provide an option like this in a so prominent way. What I think would help users, is to have some kind of "File Open" entry in the start menu which launches the OO.o app window with a "Start pane" opened. From there users can open existing documents, templates. etc. I'll reassign the issue to the owner Requirements

I have been asked to update this. As I have switched to OSX, I am no longer in a position to do so.
