Adam,
Here are the original instructions for the copyright page. It think we need a
front page. that makes it clear as to what the purpose of the copy right page
is.

--------------------------

0. Have the file saved as HTML and PDF. I have attached the file below.

1. Add an FAQ question.

Q: How do I actually assign copyright for my contribution?
A: Please download load the form<link>, and fax it or mail it in.

2. Create a simple page that allows for downloading the form.

Title: OpenOffice.Org Copyright Assignment Form

"We ask that you assign copyright when you contribute code to OpenOffice.org
so that the copyright is unified. Further, the assignation of copyright also
ensures that Sun can defend license violations if necessary.

The process for the assignment is simple. Download the form below and fax it
to OpenOffice.Org at 650-786-3912, or send it via snail mail to:

OpenOffice.Org at Sun Microsystems
901 San Antonio Road
Mail Stop UMPK29-203
Palo Alto, CA 94303-4900.

<Then have 2 links here for the document in HTML and PDF.>

Comments should be sent to feedback@openoffice.org."

Bill,

Understood. Will work to get this up ASAP.
Comment 6 Unknown 2000-10-31 02:55:39 UTC
Bill,

I would like to make one non-trivial change to the copyright website page you
outlined above. I would like to get people out of the habit of emailing "us"
when they have a problem or comment; I would like to get them into the habit of
posting their issue to the general list so we can see what kind of community
reaction we get.

For example, for the copyright page, instead of recommending that comments be
sent to feedback@openoffice.org, I would like to recommend that they post their
issue to the general discuss list, and we will reply to it there. If there's
sufficient interest (and i suspect there will be) we could even create a "legal"
list for these kinds of questions...

When folks post to the list, they are active contributors to the community at
large; when they just send email to us, they are not.

Attachment A (List of Contributions) makes the handling a bit difficult.
Can we leave that out or put something like "OpenOffice.org Port to XXX" or
"Enhancements for OpenOffice.org Spreadsheet"
So it has to be signed only once.
Comment 9 bill.roth 2000-10-31 23:21:29 UTC
Adam,
  1. The page looks good.
  2. Posing to the feedback list is good as well. I will post another issue. I
would like the feedback list to be the general email list list, so we can
archive it.
  3. Stefan: We need to have the list of contributions so we can correlate the
assignments to the contributions.

Bill,

(responding to #2)
We are trying to get rid of the "feedback@openoffice.org" list entirely; it's
too general and confusing. Between the "webmasters" list, the "support" list,
and the various project discussion forums, everything that we get to "feedback"
is covered.

I'm a little confused; are you saying that you want to retain the feedback list?
