Description don1225 2005-10-21 17:26:08 UTC
I just installed OpenOffice 2.0. I'm using Windows XP SP2. I opened a
Microsoft PowerPoint (*.ppt) file in Impress. When I clicked on the window
close box the cursor changed to an hour glass, but the Impress window did not
close. Impress became locked. I couldn't do anything in OpenOffice 2.0 like
opening Writer.

I opened the Window's Task Manager, went to the Applications tab, and saw an
Impress application with "Not Responding". I selected it, right-clicked, and
selected End Task. Nothing happened.

I changed to the process tab, selected soffice.exe, right-clicked, and
selected End Process Tree. soffice.exe ended but soffice.bin was still
running. I tried ending the soffice.bin process, but it wouldn't end.

I tried restarting my computer, but it wouldn't restart because it couldn't
stop soffice.bin. Eventally, I had to hold the on/off button in to manually
turn off the computer.

I removed OpenOffice 2.0 and reinstalled it. The same problem happened a gain.

How do you open the ppt file in Impress? Do you use the Presentation Wizard,
Open icon on toolbar, or File->Open? Which windows close box did you click on:
the small one on the top right for the file, or the bigger one for the
complete program? How complex is the PowerPoint file and what version of
PowerPoint created it?

I'm using Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2003 SP2.

I opened Impress by selecting Start/Programs/OpenOffice 2.0 Impress.
I selected "Open existing presentation".
Clicked the Open button.
Set files type to "Microsoft PuerPoint 97/2000/XP (*.ppt, *.pps).
Selected "WorkingWith-Canonicals-v02.ppt".
The presentation opened.
I then clicked on the Close Application button in the upper right corner.
The window didn't close; the application kept running.

Used attached file, but encountered different error. After choosing to Open
the file, I had to choose a file filter. So I chose Microsoft PowerPoint
97/2000/XP. However, I get a message saying
Version Incompatibility. Incorrect file version.
I click OK and Impress closes.

Sorry, not reproducible here. I followed exactly the description. Would it be
possible to remove the program completely and install it again? Thanks in advance.
