Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 56398
insert screenshot option
Last modified: 2013-02-07 22:35:36 UTC
I guess lot of people use, OO.o, its a great application, but lacks this feature for me. I do some software documentation, or technical graphs in report writing, and I need to insert some screenshots, from my desktop directly into OO.o applications. Right now theres a workaround, I use GIMP to capture the photo, and use Insert->Graphics->From File in the menus to load the image. Now I think its a waste of time, on the user. She would love it to happen the other way: "Open OO.o, do your simulation or test-software on the other screen, and make sure you can allow, them to capture the screen or window or a region and paste it directly into the OO.o document. Just say Insert->Graphics->Screenshot, and presto! OO.o the giant sledge hammer will crack this nut. Our venerable user, has her time saved, listening to the iPod, and just finished inserting several nice screenshots & documentation into the program, making here some 5X faster, at work! Thank you OO.o. " Well Id like this USE case to become true. I guess, you can add an API to do simple stuff, of capturing a window, and rendering it into a PNG/JPG image, and putting that into the current document, or at the mouse position. Its really a great, thing Id like to see happen, because it could ease lives, and also encourage people to write software documentation bazillion times faster. Thank You Muthu
Created attachment 30709 [details] GIMP has this terse dialog, to add a new screenshot, I wish OO.o had this.
Not sure if OOo has to provide everything, especially as there are lots of screenshot utilities for various platforms available. They probaly do their job good enough and might even put the image in the clipboard so that you can easily paste it. I see no need for it, but this is only my opinion... ssa->bh: you handle rfe's, right ?
bh -> ssa: Yes, that is right, but that under the owner requirements, I've created, as some other people from OOo marketing are evaluating also. Thanks for the issue.
