Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 63192
IssueZilla: use UTC for displaying time
Last modified: 2008-05-17 23:30:32 UTC
IssueZilla is using some local timezone instead of some global time, e.g.: Sat Apr 23 12:28:00 -0800 2005 As OOo is distributed project, it doesn't make sense to display all times in this local time zone. If any local time zone makes sense, the one where most of the developers are located should be used. UTC should be used otherwise. Imagine the typical situation: some user from Germany files an issue and assigns to some developer who is (random coincidence ;-) located also in Germany. All times recorded in IZ are in -0800 time zone -> unusable without re-counting them.
reassigning to support as enhancement...
Isn't it worth at least an opinion?
It is definitely possible to change to a different timezone for CEE. However, why only IssuZilla and not the entire CEE application? If, let's say, the same users using the Docs & Files have to compute the time but not for IZ, then again we have the same issue. Let us know if you would like to change the timezone on CEE to UTC site-wide.
Sure, IZ is the main area where it makes sense for me ;-) Stefan, what is your opinion about all other apps? And of course I can't assign to support. Or can I when it was assigned back to me only for question?
I think this is a duplicate of issue 728 which has been marked as RESOLVED/LATER. Yes, I would be happy if we switch to UTC for the complete site. I would be happy if this issue is closed and would be happy if support continues to work on issue 728.
I'd be happy to see any progress at all. Isn't it good time to turn UTC on stage server?

Date/Time for comments is displayed correctly in UTC. But issue activity is still in PT. See issue 66609 comment desc 4 Additional comments from st Tue Feb 6 16:49:28 +0000 2007 ------- http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_activity.cgi?id=66609
As IssueZilla is currently running in maintenance mode and due to the complexities involved in the fix, we will not be considering this enhancement in IssueZilla. However, the difference in timezone does not exist in Project Tracker. The comments and the history section in Project Tracker display the same timezone. As the fix is already present in IZ's successor PT, I'm marking this issue as Resolved Later. Regards, Karishma Support Operations
Setting target milestone to CEE Consid-future. Regards, Karishma Support Operations
Uhm, reopening. It's not clear to me that we will be abandoning Issue Tracker (IZ) any time soon. We may end up using Project Tracker--which almost all here are unaware of--but will likely not stop using IT, at least in the foreseeable future. Further, saying that the desired functionality is present in a totally different application which some of may use for similar purposes as we use IT is misleading. I'm reopening this and ask that the functionality desired be implemented in Issue Tracker. louis
The issue 728 already tracks the request to use a consistent timezone across all components in CEE. That issue when fixed would also fix the timezone difference within IZ. Hence, marking this issue as a duplicate of issue 728. Regards, Karishma Support Operations *** This issue has been marked as a duplicate of 728 ***
