Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 69676
Printer vs. File distinction in Tools - Options should be removed
Last modified: 2013-02-07 22:34:59 UTC
The distinction in Tools - Options - OpenOffice.org - Print between printer and file, see http://www.pangea.at/~ralph/printer-settings-file-vs-printer.png does not (or no longer?) make any sense. Since exporting PDF is the common way to handle printing into files, even less so. It makes the dialog confusing. /ralph -- yes, I submitted something similar in an old issue, closed long ago. This one is much more to the point.
I also believe that "print to file" is no important feature, but I doubt that we can pass on that option. As long as printer drivers will offer to print to file, we need the possibility to do those settings in Menu 'Tools - Options - OOo - Print'
Requirement
Thanks for considering that issue. My problem is not with printing to file (which by itself is of course important), but that there are *different* printer preferences for printing to file. The radio button this issue is about more or less acts like a "tab" in the dialog, creating two sets of options one for the actual printer, one for print-to-file. This faux tab behaviour is what is confusing. The distinction *in the options* is IMHO no longer required.
@ralphie Yes, I agree, currently I can not see any reasons to have different properties, but I am not familiar with all OS specific needs. May be that those different settings for "Print to file" are useful for some exotic OS.
To grep the issues easier via "requirements" I put the issues currently lying on my owner to the owner "requirements".
