OOo hangs during (a)page formatting and (b) save operations

Background: This issue is related to Issue 70268. For more details, see that issue. The problematic document (private) is with OD and MRU. OD gave the feedback that the problem described in Issue 70268 was related to (a) many paragraphs having "keep with the next paragraph" property, and (b) Many images anchored to paragraphs (as opposed to anchored "as character"). To resolve the first problem, I have now selected the ENTIRE document and reset the "keep with the next paragraph" property of ALL paragraphs. I am unable to tackle the second problem because the document contains nested tables, and I have to anchor many images to the paragraphs in those tables. That's why I cannot anchor them as characters. Even now, the document fails often, in the following ways: (a) During saving, the progress bar goes to 55% (approx) and then halts. It takes about 10-15 more minutes to grow by one "dash". After that, it takes 2-3 minutes to grow by one dash. The entire save operation takes about 40 minutes! (But this is not always: Sometimes, it takes only 2 minutes.) (b) If I use the Tools> Update> Page formatting, often the repagination progress' progress bar stops and then OOo hangs. I have noticed that even when it is successful, the progress bar ALWAYS halts at specific points (either 55% or 20%). I guess that at these points, the algorithm must be doing something that is prone to "infinite loop" behavior. But if I update the TOC and Index, then the Update all operation seems to be successful. This can be investigated with the document I have supplied, as it is very consistent. I am using 2.0.4 final. The problem seems to have started with 2.0.4 RC1 and RC3. My PC is very powerful (Pentium 4 with HT, 3 GHz, with 1 GB memory, Win XP SP-2). I am using J2SE 1.5.0_06-b05. I have closed all other applications to avoid loading. Even then the problem continues.
This document crashes under one more condition: When I try to compare it with a slightly modified version. To replicate this, just open it, modify a little and save it under a different name. Now compare both documents using the Edit > Compare document... menu. Even as OOo loads the second document, it crashes (starts the recovery wizard).
Still the same in 2.2 RC4
The crash when comparing the document(s) is not reproducible to me in OO 2.2. MRU->ES: please investigate the behavior when saving the documents (it is from issue 60340, confidential!). I mean, it is a quite large document, but 5 seconds for one dot in the progress is quite... For the hangs in formatting the document there have already been filed other issues regarding raindrop's document(s).
