Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 74893
File Open dialog settings
Last modified: 2022-11-05 20:29:01 UTC
I have been using OO.org for about a year now and one of the things that has always bugged me is that the File, Open dialog does not remember my settings from one instance to the next. When I need to open several files individually (typically while doing a Insert sheet from file) I have to re-set the view (list, details, thumbnails, etc.) and the sort order (details view -> name, date, type, etc) for every file I open. This is very tedious when I have to open a number of files. In my case, I prefer to see the files in detail view, sorted ascending by date for virtually every time I open any file. I am sure others have different preferences. It would be great if OO.org "remembered" the way I set this dialog box the last time I used it. Thanks for all of the hard work of this project and please let me know if you need any more input on this. J.R. Tapper Director of MIS JH Larson Electrical Company
jrtapper, as far as I know OO simply calls Windows dialog. That dialog handles all of the view tasks. You can set default view using Windows Explorer.
I am not a Windows programmer and do not know how all of the controls and calls work but, I do know that in that "other" spreadsheet program (in the '97 version at least) it does retain the user's last settings even if the program is closed and re-opened. I know that other Windows programs exhibit this behavior as well, so I assumed that it is a function that the programmer can control. Thank you for your time.
Windows 2000 is out-of-date now.
