Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 7923
keep with previous paragraph
Last modified: 2014-04-01 10:44:09 UTC
Right-click -> Paragraph style -> Text Flow -> Options would be better if it included an option to keep with previous paragraph as well as keep with next paragraph. When writing a mathematical document and explaining what an equation does it would be nice to be able to tie the equation paragraph to the paragraphs above and below so that the equation reads as part of the text.
Reassigned to Bettina.
In 1.1Beta2 there is an option to "keep with next paragraph" but not one to "keep with previous paragraph". I am confirming this issue.
I would very much like to see this feature implemented - in my view it would put OpenOffice a decisive step ahead of Word. This kind of function seems to be available in FrameMaker, and it used to be in some M$ Word for Mac version (5?). Prefessionals seem to want it, and here's what I want it for: Imagine a table of contents (any text that has some tree-like hierarchy, with each paragraph having some kind of level, but no "unleveled" text in between). I want to restict page breaks, make them occur at top level paragraphs only. How do you do that with "Keep with Previous"? Easy - give each lower level paragraph the "Keep with Previous" attribute, with high level paragraphs lacking it. "Keep with Next" offers no such easy way - I would have to format everything except the "leaf" paragraphs with "Keep with Next", but I can't expect every leaf to have the same level, so a style-based solution is not possible.
