Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 8446
"Record Changes" option is turned off inside a table when a new row is inserted
Last modified: 2013-08-07 14:38:26 UTC
If I have "Record Changes" and "Show Changes" turned on and I am editing a table, on insertion of a row into the table the "Show Changes" and "Record Changes" gets turned off.
Yes, you are right, this is a bug. An old and known one at that, which has been carried over from pre-OpenSource days. The problem is that the current mechanism for change tracking has problems whenever the table structure is changed, and inserting a new row does just that. This has been looked at by several developers over the years (with me being the latest to have 'inherited' the code), but everyone (including myself) has given up since this would require significant re-writes of both the table functionality and the change tracking itself. This would a) take quite a bit of time, and b) introduce a number of new bugs like any new code would, which would take even more time to iron out. There is some hope that we'll have time to fix this (and other table and change tracking related problems) for the next big release (2.x, maybe), but currently no one is working in this. This is why I marked it as 'resolution: LATER'. I hope you'll understand... :-)
