Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 92059
Provide "Reveal As-->" option on File menu for quick access to file in various formats (pdf, html, doc, etc.)
Last modified: 2013-02-07 22:34:13 UTC
Purpose: To provide easy three-click access to the exact folder location of the current working file in the original format (OpenDocument) or in any of the common formats (MS-OFFICE, OFFICE docx, pdf, txt, html). Function: Similar to the "Send-->" option on the file menu, the proposed "Reveal As-->" item would pre-package the current working file in the specified formats, but instead of opening the email client, this menu item would instead open the folder (directory) window that contains the file using the default file manager. User Experience: When the user selects the "File-->Reveal As-->" option, a submenu (similar to the submenu under "Send-->") pops up with the following options: "Reveal File" "Reveal File as Microsoft Office" "Reveal File as Microsoft Office 2007" "Reveal File as PDF" "Reveal File as HTML" "Reveal File as TXT" When the user selects one of the options, control is passed to a dialog box similar to the "Save As..." or "Export..." dialogs, but is named "Export and Reveal..." The dialog box has pre-selected the appropriate file format and extension, which the user is free to change as needed. The user then clicks on the button titled "Export and Reveal" (or "Save and Reveal"), control passes then to the default file manager, which opens the containing folder with the document file highlighted. Market: Probably everyone who has ever used OpenOffice would have liked at one time or another to have quick access to either the original, .doc, .docx, .pdf, or .html file, rather than exporting and then having to wade through the file manager to find the file. Notes: This could be partly accomplished simply by adding a "Reveal after saving" check box to the Export dialog box.
